EPR Study of V^<4+> Ions in Tungsten Trioxide WO_3

The EPR spectra from V" tons in WO. single crystal were studied in the tem-perature range from 300 K to 77 K by using a K-band spectrometer. At 77 K, theg values and hf parameters A of V" ions were strong c-axis anistropy, so thattx=1.92S, tr=1.945, tzz1.S15, (Eulerian angles; 0.=3.9', fi.=45.S', y.=0.2'), and A.= - 60.5 G, A.= - 55.0 G,A z = - 190.4 G, (0.=4.4', p.=43.6',y,.= 1.5'). The ground state of 3d' electron of V" ion was determined to be l xy)state by hf structure analysis. WO, is determined to be a ferroelectric material withthe spontaneous polarization along the c-axis connected to the condensedferroelectric If 5 phonon modes of W" ions in the monoclinic II phase at 77 K.At the relations of g.. vs A... for V" and VO" ions in some host crystals,WO. is shown to be a remarkable material.
