The X-ray scattering profiles from W03 single crystal are carefully examinedto investigate the acoustic instability near the monocliuaic-orthorhombic phasetransition tenaperature 7'.=3l0'C. The spontaneous shear strain e.. is 0.016 at25 'C, decreases with increasiuag temperature auad becomes zero at T.. The tempera-ture dependence of X-ray diffuse scattering intensity indicates that the elasticstiffness couasarat [55 beconaes vazaishingly small just above T..
