An Investigation of Successive Phase Transitions in KCdF_3 by EPR Probe of Gd^<3+>-V_<cd> Centre

The structural phase transition in KCdF. is investigated by analysing EPRspectra of Gd" centres with Cd" vacancies<cm rtearest neighbour lattice sites.Temperature and field-direction dependence<>f 1:he spectra shows occurrenceof successive phase transitions at around 485 and 471 K. In the second phase471 K<7'<485 K, the field-direction dependence obtained in this experiment isnot consistent with that expected from the condensation of the Mg phonon modewhich was previously reported. The experimental results at'e interpreted by amodel that these phase transitions are due to t!he condensation of the alternaterotations around two cubic axes at 485 K and a.rotund another axis at 471 K.
