Study on the Ultrasonic Relaxation Just above the Transition Temperature of Triglycine Sulfate

The velocity and the attenuation coefficient of the longitudinal ultrasonicwave propagating along the ferroelectric b axis of triglycine sulfate (TGS) havebeen nteastured as a function of tenaperature in the paraelectric phase. The effectiverelaxation time "eff was evaluated as a function of temperature from these data.A value of the Tcff is O.95X10-" sec at T -7'.=I.00'C. The temperature depend-ence of r..j cannot be understood only by the energy relaxation mechanism, andsuggests a possibility of another process through two polarization relaxationmodes discussed by the ntode-mode cotupling theory.
