Wavevector Dependence of the Damping of the Acoustic Phonon of KD_2PO_4 Studied by Light Scattering

Linewidths of the acoustic phonons propagated and polarized in the ab planewere measured for various scattering angles between x/6 and 5x/6 by the use of4880 A light. It was observed that the linewidths of the quasitransverse wavesbroaden as the temperature is lowered to the transition point; the linewidths ofthese phonon peaks depend not only on the direction, but also on the magnitudeof their wave vectors. These results are discussed by taking into account of thepiezoelectric interaction between the xy shear component of the acoustic phononsand the z-component of the polarization fluctuation.
