Raman Spectra of RbH_3(SeO_3)_2 above and below the Phase Transition

Raman Spectra of RbH.(Se0,). are studied in the region 0-120 cam-' over awide temperature range on several geometries. Two soft-modes at :28 cm=' (A-symmetry) and 32 cm-' (#-symmetry) are observed. Two broad plate:au responses(A- and Z?-symmetries) appear between the central Rayleigh corrtponent andabout 30cm-" and show maximum at the phase transition tempt:rature. "I'heplateaus are strongly coupled to the soft-modes. In the ferroelectric phase, thereare hard-modes which are derived fronn zone-boundary modes of the paraelectricphase. These hard-modes are also obtained above the transition ternperature asvery weak and damped lines. In the vicinity of the transition tempe:rature, boththe intensity and linewidth of the zone-boundary hard-mode change remarkably.This behavior is essentially attributed to the two-phonon scattering t:oncerned inthe soft and hard-modes.
