Inhibitory Effect of Some Wild Plants in Akita on Melanin Biosynthesis

• We cloned a highly pigmented sub-cell line(B16 10F7) from B16 mouse melanoma cells. The cloned cells produced the melanin pigments 23.1 times that of original B16 cells. By using this clone, extracts of 42 wild plants growing in Akita were screened for the inhibitory effect on the cell melanin biosynthesis. As a result, ethanol extracts of Aralia cordata, A.elata, Angelica ursina. Cirsium japonicum, C.purpuratum, Smilax riparia and the methanol extracts of Polygonum cuspidatum, Rumex crispus var. japonicus, A.cordata, A.elata, A.ursina, C.japonicum and C.purpuratum were shown to inhibit the melanin production of B16 10F7 cells.
