Using Chitin Column Chromatography, Isolation of 24-Hydroperoxy-24-vinyl-cholesterol from Sargassaceae Seaweeds

24-Hydroperoxy-24-vinyl-cholesterol was isolated from, Sargassum ringgoldianum and S. horneri, Sargassaceae. It is the first isolation of this sterol from these plant sources. Isolation procedures are partially different under normal procedure and using chitin as stationary phase of column chromatography. It is the first application of column chromatography except affinity chromatography for separation of protein. It is suggested that chitin may be useful for support of column chromatography. This procedure is valuable for protection of environment and effective use of natural resources.
