The spreading mechanism of BAg-5 on the austenitic stainless steel surface, which was precoated and preheated with the specified fluxes before a spreading test, was considered from the observated results by SEM and by appling a concept of a surface roughness coefficient. On the other hand, the flux action of KCl-LiCl system for spreading of BAg-5 on pure metals such as copper, nickel, cobalt and iron plates was explained from a thermochemical consideration for the reducing reaction occurring between used flux and each base plate.
