A humidity aging effect was demonstrated by evaluating disintegration, dissolution, water content, specific surface area of tablets and percentage of the dose excreted in the urine (relative cumulative urinary excretion) for three dosage formulations (powder, granules and tablet) of calcium p-aminosalicylic acid (PAS-Ca). The changes of physical characteristics, disintegration times and dissolution amounts of dosage formulations were observed after prolonged exposure to two relative humidities (RH 32.9% and RH 92.9%) at 23℃. The percentages of the dose excreted in the urine after oral administration of PAS-Ca dosage formulations were reduced considerably, with increases of disintegration time or decreases of dissolution amount.
