In this study, attention was forcussed on the Cl/N ratio, which is thought to have a major influence on the nitrogen removal rate, and on the alkyl rakical which bonds with the amino radical. The results shows that nitrogen removal is greatest when Cl/N=20. It was also found that of Primary, secondary and tertiary amine solutions, the primary solution reacts most readily with sodium hypochlorite. The higher the molecular weight of the alkyl radical which bonds with the nitrogen of the amino radical, the higher is the rate of nitrogen removal.
