Activated charcoal has been used as an adsorbent for nitrogen dioxide, but it reduces adsorbed nitrogen dioxide to nitrogen monoxide which is subsequently released. Thus, activated charcoal when used as an adsorbent of nitrogen dioxide would produce a secondary pollution. Present paper describes various factors affecting the degree of reduction of nitrogen dioxide, such as temperature, weight of activated charcoal, relative humidity and initial concentration of nitrogen dioxide, and time of gas flowing.
