A simple and rapid method was developed for the determination of low molecular weight aliphatic ambient amines. Sanarumin (2.5MgO・Al_2O_3・XH_2O) was used as an adsorbent for collection and concentration of amines in air. The amines were adsorbed quantitatively on the adsorbent under 200℃. Therefore, interfering substances to FID such as benzene and other hydrocarbons could be eliminated easily by heating the sampling tube in this method. The precision of the method was determined from seven results obtained for a standard sample of trimethyl amine and the relative standard devition was 3.8% A plot of the peak area against the known standard amounts of trimethyl amine gave a straight line over the range of 4.8 to 48 ng.
