Many trace organic compounds present in the atmosphere are known to be harmful to humans and on animal and plant life. Recently, much work has been done on analytical techniques for one group of these compounds, the polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PHA), and in particular on the carcinogenetic and other physical effects of benzopyren, and evironmental contamination by other PAHs^<1-8)>. Nitrogen polycyclic aromatic compounds (N-PAC) and more highly reactive in the atmosphere than PAH, and the acridines have been reported to be carcinogenetic, but no studies have been done on systematic analysis of N-PACs; there have only been a few reports on analysis of aromatic amines and two or three cyclic compounds^<9-15)>. The purpose of this study was to establish a method of analyzing the combustion gas of heavy oil, which is considered to be one of the sources of atmosphere N-PAC.
