Generally, thiosemicarbazide can be prepared by the reaction of hydrazine with metal salt of thiocyanate in organic solvent. However, the yield are not satisfactory. We found the method for improvement of preparation of thiosemicarbazide. From the result of the study of the usual manner of preparation of thiosemicarbazide, it was found that the oxygen in atmosphere and the inorganic salt generated from the reaction decomposed the hydrazine thiocyanate generated intermediately. The improvements of reaction conditions are as follows. 1. The hydrazine thiocyanate was used after isolation. 2. The reaction was carried out under inert gas. 3. The technique of strring of reaction mixture was improved.
