The desulfurization reactions by irradiation of low pressure lamp from 2- or 3-phenylthiooctanoate to give ethyl 2-octenoate were established. When ethyl 2 or 3-phenylthiooctanoate in hexane was irradiated by low pressure lamp, ethyl 2-octenoate was obtained in 60% yield. Further, other photo elimination reactions of α-phenylthio carbonyl derivatives were also examined.
