N^4,N^4-Dicyano aralkylidene aminoguanidines were prepared in good yield by the reaction of aralkylidene aminoguanidines with cyanogen bromide. According to our previous paper, the reaction of aminoguanidine hydrobromide with cyanogen bromide in the neutral medium gives N^1,N^2-diguanidino guanidine hydrobromide and 1-guanyl semicarbazide hydrobromide via cyano intermediate. From our interest of cyanation of aminoguanidine derivatives by the use of cyanogen bromide, the reactions of aminoguanidines, in which N-amino group was protected by aralkylidene or alkylidene groups, with cyanogen bromide were investigated in the present study and interesting new compounds, N^4,N^4-dicyano aminoguanidine derivatives [2] were obtained. Further, 4-aralkylidene aminoguanyl-3,5-diamino-1,2,4-triazoles were obtained by the reaction of [2] with hydrazine. This report describes the details of the above mentioned reactions and some reactions of 4-aralkylidene aminoguanyl-3,5-diamino-1,2,4-triazoles.
