A convenient and high yield procedure for the preparation of 2,2′-thenil in four steps from dithiane derivatives was described. Furthermore, diglyceryl 2,3′, 4′, 2″-terthiophene-2′, 5′-dicarboxylate was prepared from 2,2′-thenil as the water soluble terthiophene derivatives.
