Decomposition of Organic Substance by Activated Sludge Using Peroxide

The present work reports that we can substitute peroxides for aeration in the decomposition of organic substances by the activated sludge. Addition of a mixture of calcium peroxide and calcium carbonate was found more effective for the decomposition of organic substances in the waste water by activated sludge than the aeration method. This is due to the facts that calcium carbonate retards the evolution of oxygen, the evolution continuing over a long period of time, and that the rise of pH of the solution is suppressed below 9.
