The Soret coefficients of aqueous solutions of some transition metal chlorides were determined by use of combined thermocells. The following values (in 10<SUP>−3</SUP> K<SUP>−1</SUP>) were obtained in 0.005 M solutions at 25°C: −7.01 for MnCl<SUB>2</SUB>, −4.61 for CoCl<SUB>2</SUB>, −2.67 for NiCl<SUB>2</SUB>, and −3.43 for CuCl<SUB>2</SUB>. It was concluded that ion paramagnetism does not affect thermal diffusion.
