Diffusion measurements have been made for Cl. in KCI at 'temperaturesranging from 550'C to 750'C. The experimental procedure is the same as hasbeen previously used for the diffusion of BI'2 in KBr. The activation<:nergy of thediffusion is 1.82:E0.12 eV and shows the apparent agreement with fate theoreticalestimates by Diller based on the vacancy-pair mechanism. The activation energyof the solution of C12 at the surface is -0.48lmO.]7 eV. This shows the exothermicreaction of Cl. at the surface of K.CI in contrast with the endothermic reaction ofBr. at the surface of KBr.
