Polarized Neutron Studies for Cr Excitations

The spin fltmctuation mode of magnetic excitations in the spin density wave (SDW) state ofmetallic chromium (Cr) was analyzed by uneans of polarization analysis of neutron scattering.Coznznensurate scattering centered at the antiferromagnetic superlattice position of 7T/0(1,0,0)is dominated by the longitudinal unode both below and above the threshold energy of 8 zneVwith a different ratio against the transverse rnode. On the other hand, rnagnetic excitations withthe wave vector of the static SDW were confiruned to be mostly longitudinally polarized below8 men, but the scattering mode above this threshold energy was nearly isotropic.
