Neutron Scattering Study of Oxygen Ordering and Magnetic Correlations in La_2NiO_<4.11> and La_2NiO_<4.125>

We have performed neutron scattering experitnents on single crystals of La3NiO.j;,5 (J : 0.11,and 0.125) to stvxdy the effect of oxygen doping on the strtrcttrral and taaargnetic properties. Thedegree of the excess oxygen order strongly irxflvxerxces the lOC21l crystal strtuctture ?tnd interlayerrtaagnetic correlation. The intralayer raaagnetic corx'elation is depressed by doping in the COIII-tnensurate region ((5< 0.11), then tvxrns to incre?xse in the incoraarnensvrrate region ((5 >0.11).Our experinaental results are coztapared with existing results for oxygen ancl Sr doped LazNiO,j.
