Quasielastic and Inelastic Neutron Scattering on RbNiCl_3

Quasielastic and inelastic neutron scattering experiments on S= 1 quasi 1-DHeisenberg antiferromagnet, RbNiCl, were performed. The temperature dependenceof the spin correlation length suggests a finite 1-D correlation even at T=O (K). Thedispersion relation in the 3-D ordered phase can be well described by thephenomenological theory of a quasi l-D Heisenberg antiferromagnet including thellaldane effect. Our results support early works on CsNiCl, suggesting the influenceof the novel quantum effect even in 3-D ordered phase of the quasi 1-D, .5=1Heisenberg antiferromagnet.[1-D Heisenberg antiferromagnet, spin wave, RbNiCl3, Haldane conjecture, ll neutron scatteringl
