• In metallic sodiutaa, a characteristic waiting time, which is the incubation time until phasetransition st?trts, appears above Al. at a fixed tenaperature. Small-angle neutron scatteringfrom clusters of the low-tenaperatttre phase is observed, which shows good agreement with theaggregation-of-spheres model, whose radius distribution is a IVIaxwell distribution function. Us-ing the aggregation-of-spheres taaodel, the average radius, rg, of clusters of the low-temperaturephase was found to be 57.2A. 1VIoreover, abnormal small-angle neutron scattering from local[1ucttrartions is seen dtrring the waiting tinae, where this waiting time is related to the nucleationprocess in the martensitic ph?xse trstnsition.
