Neutron Diffraction Studies of Atomic Structures of Amorphous Fe-Ge and Ni-Ge Alloys

The structures of Ge rich amorphous Fe-Go and Ni-Ge alloys were studiedby pulsed neutron total scattering. The partial structure factors of S....(Q),S?j(3.(Q) and Sj.jyj(9) were determined successfully by using Ni" isotope forthe Ni-Ge alloys. The Ge atoms in the 10 at'3 Ni-Ge amorphous alloy werefound to construcl. a similar atomic structure as that of the amorphous Go,while the intermediate short range order configuration between the tetrahedralrandom network (TRN) and the dense randozn packing (DRP) structure wasfound for the 30 at % Ni-Ge alloy. The Ge-Ge pair correlation for this inter-mediate short range order could well be reproduced by the modified Ge II micro-crystalline model.
