Kβ X-Ray Emission Spectra and Chemical Environments of Phosphorus in Some Selected Compounds

The phosphorus K f3 emission fluorescence spectra from 10 selected compounds are rnea-svrred with a high-resolution two-crystal vacuum spectrometer. The phosphorus compoundsstudied include inorganic cornpounds K2HPO3, NQH2PO2-H20, N2LH2P03?2.5H20, CazPzO7,Cu3PzO7 and (NaPO3)?; and organic compotrnds tri-c>-tolylphosphine (0-CH3C6H4)3P, tri-m-tolylphosphine (m-CH3C5H.j)3P, tri-p-tolylphosphine (P-CH3C6H4)3P and triphenylphosphineoxide (C(5H5)3PO. The measured P Kf3 emission spectra are discussed in relation to chemicalenvironments arottnd phosphorus atom in the conapounds. It is shown that the P K p emissionspectra are strongly influenced by chemical environments. The effect of o-, m- and p-methylsubstittrtion at the benzene ring (position isomerism) is observed in the emission spectra oftri-o-tolylphosphine, tri-m-tolylphosphine and tri-p-tolylphosphine.
