Fluorine Kα X-Ray Emission Spectra of MgF_2,CaF_2,SrF_2 and BaF_2

• The fluorine Kcx emission spectra in fluorescence from a series of alkaline-earthfluorides MF. (M=Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba) are measured with a high-resolution two-ll l l " f h K" II' kcrysta vacuum spectrometer. /Kn anoma ous y ow untensuty o L e L safe ute peaarising from 1.5 '(2s2p) ' initial states is observed for SrF.. The measured emissionspectra are presented along with the UPS spectra of the F 2p valence bands obtainedby Poole et al. and the fluorin?: K absorption-edge spectra by Oizumi et al. By usingthese spectra, the first peak or shoulder in the fluorine K absorption-edge spectra isidentified as being due to a core: exciton which is formed below the bottom of the con-duction band. The binding energy of the exciton is estimated to be 1.3(f0.3),1.1(f0.2), 1.0( 4 0.2) and 1.7('f'0.2) eV for MgF., CaF., SrF. and BaF., respectively.alkaline-earth fluoride, X-ray emission spectra, X-ray absorption spectra,photoelectron spectra, satellite, core exciton, bincling energy, valence band, con-duction band, optical gap, electronegativity
