X-Ray Kβ Emission and K Absorption Spectra of Chlorine in MnCl_2, FeCl_2, CoCl_2 and NiCl_2

The Kβ emission and K absorption spectra of chlorine in MnCl_2, FeCl_2, CoCl_2 and NiCl_2 have been obtained with a 50 cm best quartz crystal vacuum spectrograph. The Kβ emission bands are very wide. The shapes of the Kβ emission bands and of the K absorption bands are alike among different chlorides. The first absorption peak shifts to low energy side systematically from MnCl_2 to NiCl_2. The similarity of the observed spectra seems to suggest that the energy band structures of these chlorides are alike. Discussion is made about the first peak in the K absorption spectra on the basis of the comparison with the Cl^- L_<2.3 absorption spectra.
