The Spin-Mixing Parameters in the Optical Pumping Cycle of the F Centers in KBr and KI

The spin-mixing parameter e is the probability that a spin is flipped into the op-posite spin level in the optical processes in the presence of a magnetic field. In theFranck-Condon state, the mean and anisotropic parameters c. and Je have beencalculated as a function of pumping photon energy E,., on a theoretical frameworkin which the spin-orbit and electron-lattice interactions with T;-, 77-, and 17-modes are included. The effect of the f"-mode is predominant. By using c. and iecalculated, and introducing a mixing parameter 'rl in the non-radiative relaxation pro-cess, the experimentally-determined f..-dependermce of the net spin-mixing parametere. and that of Je(1 -2e..) have been explained consistently. The c..-dependence offractional dichroic differential oumoint rate has been calculated.
