A method for solving the problem of combirned spin-orbit and Jahn-Tellercoupling is introduced in the case of an electronic triplet state coupled to avibration of e mode in cubic symmetry. In this approach a simple recursionrelation systematically provides basis functions which are vet'y useful in reducingthe size of the Hamiltonian matrix to be diagonalized numerically. As an exampleof application, the level splitting and optical intensity of the zero-phonon linehave been calculated for 'A.='T. transition of V" ton in KMgF., and goodagreement with experiment has been found.
