Vibronic Fine Structure of the Line Shape for E→T Transition : The GRl Band in Diamond

An or>tical line share for E=Tz transition in tetrahedral symmetry has seencalculated for the case where both the sround and the To excited states are coupledto an e vibrational mode. The effect of czuadratic Jahn-Teller coupling in theground state 011 V1btOI11C fine structure IS xnvestxgated. The cdculated result hasbeen comrared with the GRI absorr>tion band in diamond. The origin of a 40 mevsideband observed exr>erimentall>r has been exrlored within the frameworr orthe Jahn-Teller interaction following the suggestion sir Davies ana Foy. It hasbeen shown that its eners>r rosition and relative intensitv can be exr>lained, ifthe quadratic coupling of e-t in the T. excited state is taken into account.
