Thermal Expansion of Single Crystalline Kondo Compound CeCu_2

Thermal expansion measurement has been carried out on single crystalline CeCu.and YCu. in the temperature range from 1.8 K to 300 K. The thermal expansions ofCeCu. are highly anisotropic among each crystal axis reflecting orthorhombic crystalstructure. A well-defined anomaly due to antiferromagnetic ordering is observed near3.5 K in the temperature dependence of the linear thermal expansion coefficient cx,(i=a-, b- and c-axis). A magnetic contribution to a,(T) due to 4f electron is estimated by comparing the cx,-T curve of CeCu. with that of YCu.. We also discuss themagnetic contribution to volume thermal expansion cx.(T) curve and attempt toanalyze it on the basis of phenomenological theory.
