Specific heat of a dense-Kondo system, Ce._xLa_1-xCu_6, has been systematicallymeasured between 2 and 80 K in order to clarify the transition from dilute-Kondo todense-Kondo behavior as the cerium concentration, x, increases. We have found thatthe magnetic specific heat per molar cerium, C., is nearly independent of x and is ax-plained by a simple sum of the Kondo specific heat and the Schottky specific heat, with the ,v-independent energy separation between the ground and the first excitedstates (65 K). However, due to the interaction between the cerium ions, the first ex-cited state tends to be broadened as x increases, and the width of the first excited statefor the dense limit of CeCu.(7'.=3.9K)isestimatedto be about 20K. At low temper-aturcs, C.. increases as x is decreased. This tendency is qualitatively interpreted as dueto the decrease in T. caused by the increase of unit cell volume.
