Effect of Spin Fluctuations on the Specific Heat in βMn Metal and Alloys

The low temperature specific heat was measured in /7Mn metal and alloyswith V, Cr, Fe, Co and Ni. The large enhancement of the electronic specific heatdue to spin fluctuations is observed. The coefficient of the electronic specific heat,7, changes with the excess number of the d electrons per atom in the alloy, An.,having a peak at Jo.=0.005 which indicates that pure /7Mn remains paramagneticeven at 0 K. The behavior of the electronic specific heat is explained well qualita-lively by the self-consistently renormalized spin fluctuation theory by Hasegawa.
