NMR Study of Weak Antiferromagnetism in NbFe_2

The "Nb NMR and magnetization have been measured to investigate the nature ofweak antiferromagnetism in the hexagonal C-14 Laves phase compound, NbFez. Thetemperature and magnetic field dependence of the magnetization and nuclear sptn-lal-lice relaxation time, T., confirmed that an antiferrornagnetic transition occurs at lowfields and is easily suppressed by fields above 6 kOe. An analysis of T. shows thatboth the ferro- and antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations coexist in this system and thatthe ferromagnetic component is dominant at high fields. The coexistence of two com-ponents of the spin fluctuation may be related to the anomalous temperaturedependence of the magnetic susceptibility at high temperatures. The analysis of NMRspectra suggests that the magnetic structure at the ordered state is of the spin densitywave type giving rise to a large distribution of hyperfine field.IN bFeNb ]f NMR, 'spin }l fluctuationl2, Laves phase, weak antiferromagnetisrn, nearly ferromagnetic metal,magnetuzatuon, nuclear spin-lattice relaxation, spin density wave,
