Low Temperature Specific Heat of RMn_2 Compounds with the Hexagonal C14 Structure (R=Y,Yb and Th)

The specific heat of C14 YM112, YbNInz and ThNInz was tneasured in the temperatture range of1.4 K to 10 K. The huge values of'specific heat were observed f'or all comjcounds. The origin of thehuge valtnes of specific heat are considered to be derived ['rotn two mechanisttas. For C14 YIVIIl2and ThVIn3, those are ascribed to the excitations of large spin fltucttuations of' In motnents. Onthe other hand, the extraordinary large value of YbMnx is due to the paraunagnetic Yb moment.
