The effects of substitution of Sc and Y for Tb on the magnetism of TbMn., which ishelimagnetic with a large Mn moment, were investigated by magnetization, thermalexpansion and NMR measurements. The substitution of Sc for Tb reduces the latticeconstant and collapses the Mn moment, resulting in the change of magnetuc structureto ferromagnetism. The signal from nonmagnetic Mn atoms was detected by NMR.The substitution of Y for Tb, which expands the lattice, does not give any drasticchange in magnetic properties. Factors of determiniutg the stability of Mn momentsand the effects of frustrative magnetic interactions on the magnetic structure are dis-cussed.II,aves phase, terbium, manganse, scandium, yttrium, magnetic property, ther- ]l mat expansion, NMRl
