Antiferromagnetic Structure of EuAl_2

The magnetic structure of the cubic Laves-phase compound ELlAl2 has been determined bypowder neutron diffraction. It is sitnple antiferromagnetic, a behaviour quite anounalous withinthe ferromagnetic series RAl2 (R:Rare Earth). This exception seems to be related to the divalentcharacter of' ettropitrtn in this compound.
