NMR Study of Magnetic State of RMn_2 Intermetallic Compounds.II.R=Heavy Rare-Earth

"Mn spin-echo NMR spectra of RMn. compounds (R = heavy rare-earth) and theirexternal field dependence have been measured in their magnetically ordered states.From the analysis of the "Mn hyperfine field, the Mn magnetic moments have beenestimated as 2.6 and 2.5 p. for GdMn. and TbMn., respectively, whereas as almostzero for DyMn., Bran. and TmMn.. For DyMn., a weak second "Mn NMR signalhas been observed, indicating the Mn moment of 2.1 p.. Concludingly, the onset ofthe Mn moment is very sensitive to the interatomic spacing of Mn atoms in the RMn.system: a large spacing stabilizes a substantially large Mn moment, while a small spac-ing makes the Mn moment unstable.
