Field-Induced Magnetic Transitions in the One-Dimensional Compound Ca_3Co_2O_6

Magnetization utaeastureuments on the one-dimensional oxide C2L3CO2O6 having a triangular netof C0206 chains have been carried out both in static and pulsed high magnetic fields. TheAi /H vs. T curve obeys the Curie-Weiss Jaw at high ternperatures. Below 25 K, however,M /H increases abruptly, and a plateatr is observed at 173 of the ftrll tnornent in the Al-Hcurve, suggesting a ferrinnagnetic state of the ferromagnetic chains dtre to the antiferrotnagneticinterchain interaction. At low II, this systexn is considered to be in a partially disorderedantiferromagnetic state for 10 K< T< 25 K and in a ferrirnagnetic state below 10 K. Theobserved plateatz in the Al-H curve for T<5 K is broader than for TO K< T< 20 K, indicatingspin freezing at lower temperatures. The restrlts can be discussed in terms of the triangular Isingspin systems.
