Forced Volume Magnetostriction of Fe_<65>(Ni_<1-x>Mn_x)_<35> Alloys

The forced volume magnetostriction and magnetization were measured forFe.,(Ni. .Mn,), alloys with 0.05 3,v30.33 at 4.2 K up to 48 k0e. With increasing x,the high field susceptibility, 7.., increases rapidly and shows a maximum aroundx=O.2, where a long range ferromagnetic order disappears. The analysis of forcedvolume magnetostriction reveals that a rapid rise of z.. is due to an increase of intrin-sic band susceptibility around the critical concentration.
