Widths of Ti Kβ_<1,3> X-Ray Lines of Metallic Titanium and Its Oxides

The Ti Kf3 X-ray spectra of metallic titanium and its oxides ttre precisely measuredwith a two-crystal spectrometer. It is found that the Ti Kp.,. line width is stronglyaffected by the oxygen concentration. The behavior is interpreted as being due to theinteraction between 3d electrons and a 3p hole produced upon emission of the Kf3.,.radiation. Also, the screening effect of 4s conduction electrons seems to play anumportant role in reducing the width at relatively low oxygen concentration.
