NMR Study of Local Environment Effect in Ferromagnetic (Ni_<1-x>X_x)Mn System-Nuclear Relaxation

The nuclear transverse relaxation time, T. of "Mn were measured in ferro-magnetic (Ni.-,Rh.)Mn, (Ni. .Fe.)Mn and Ni. ,Mn, alloys. T. is governed byT. and depends strongly on transition temperature and resonance frequency. Anextended expression of the Weger mechanism, the relaxation mechanism due tothe interaction of nuclear spin with the conduction s electrons via the spin waveis derived for the impurity relaxation ratc in a dilute ferromagnetic alloys, andis applied to explain the relaxation behavior in the present experiment. Thedependence of T. on the local environment is concluded to be due mainly to thevariation of the effective exchange coupling between a Mn moment and itsneighbors.
