A theory describing mixing phenomena in III-V semiconductor solid solutions is presented with particular emphasis on clarification of the relationship between short-range clustering/ordering and spinodal decomposition. It is pointed out that some problems are involved in the conventional treatment of the mixing phenomena, which is based on the pairwise interaction model. A systematic treatment of the mixing phenomena is developed on the basis of the recently proposed bond model.
