Reactions of various ribonucleosides with trimethylsulfonium hydroxide were investigated in the presence of Mg<SUP>2+</SUP> and Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> ions. The 2′-OH groups of pyrimidine-ribonucleosides were methylated selectively.
