小膠細胞は,脳実質を通して均一に分布している.小膠細胞は脳の微小環境における種々の変化に即座に応答し,脳における病理学的事象に対するセンサーとして機能する.本研究では,小膠細胞マーカーであるイオン化カルシウム結合アダプター分子1(Iba-1)の,スナネズミ海馬CA1領域における免疫反応性及びタンパクレベルの年齢に伴う変化について検討した.Iba-1陽性小膠細胞は,生後1ヶ月の海馬CA1領域に認められた.大部分のIba-1陽性小膠細胞は,生後1ヶ月から12ヶ月の間,形態学的に不活性型であった.いくつかのIba-1陽性小膠細胞は,生後18ヶ月及び24ヶ月の海馬CA1領域において活性型として存在した.ウェスタンブロット解析は,海馬CA1領域におけるIba-1のタンパクレベルが,生後1ヶ月から6ヶ月にかけて減少し,その後,年齢に伴って増加することを示した.この結果は,海馬に関わる神経変性病変に対する年齢依存的な感受性が関連しているのかもしれない.
