The synthesis of (2S,3S,4R)-N-tetracosanoyl-2-amino-1,3,4-octadecanetriol (5) was achieved in eight steps in a 23% overall yield starting from 3,4,6-tri-O-benzyl-D-galactopyranose (6), and then ceramide 5 was converted to (2S,3S,4R)-3,4-di-O-benzoyl-N-tetracosanoyl-2-amino-1,3,4-octadecanetriol (16), a key intermediate for the synthesis of wheat flour glycosyl ceramides (1, 2, 3 and 4) in a 79% overall yield.
