• Reaction of N-R, 3-R^2,5-R^3-pyridinium halide (III) (R=-CH_2-COOEt, -CH_2CN, -CH_2-C_6H_4-NO_2 (p) ; R^2=H, Me ; R^3=H, Me) with 1-cyano-2,2-bis (methylthio)-1-phenyl-sulfonylethene (II) in the presence of triethylamine gave the corresponding indolizine derivatives (IV) in a good yield (71-92%) (the yield of III (R=-CH_2CN, R^2=Me, R^3=H) was 38%). Similarly, 3-arylpyrrolo [2,1-a] isoquinoline (V) was also obtained by the reaction of isoquinolinium N-ylide (IIIg) with II in 85% yield.
