The phase transitions in CH,NH.HgCl. are discutssed in ternns of the Landau-typethermodynamic potential, starting from a hypothesized protot)'pic phase of high symmetry. It has turned out that the reverse of relative ',tability of I he monoclinic and thetrigonal phases actually observed can be well interpreted.
